Stop and See the Flowers

Well hello, pretty little flower. I am loving the break that I have to just stop and smell the flowers these days. I spent the years after college working in Marketing, and for the past month, I've taken a break. It's been wonderful. When I was working a stressful job, Matt used to give me a hard time when I didn't even notice the work he was doing in our garden. Literally, he would plant trees and bushes, and I wouldn't even SEE them! Now I can take the time and enjoy these things.

Our friend, Grant, brought us this tree just the other day. Yesterday morning, I woke up to two of these gorgeous hibiscus flowers in bloom. Lovely :)

A Spring Supper

The weather yesterday was just perfect, so I decided to prep for an evening of grilling. I saw this recipe in an old Martha Stewart magazine, and it was pretty simple. I marinated the steak and then skewered it with various veggies. Matt worked the grilled and cooked these up alongside some sliced sweet potato and corn. Yum!

And here's the snapshot of the recipe in the magazine if you want to give it a try:

Celebration Weekend

This past Easter weekend, we made the trip to DC to celebrate one of my good friend and college roommate, Sami's, engagement. We had such a great time celebrating the happy couple and reminiscing about our college days. On Saturday, we started with a shower for the bride.

The food at the shower was so yummy. This is a picture of the cute cake that was served. I had so much fun reuniting with friends and meeting some of Sami's hilarious friends that I had never met before.

Then after we finished up at the bridal shower, Matt picked me up, we quickly got ready and then drove into DC for the couple's engagement party. The party venue was a gorgeous rooftop terrace overlooking DC. It was such a perfect night. I absolutely loved getting to catch up with my good friend Sami. It has been a couple years since we've seen each other, but we always pick up right where we left off. She is so amazing and talented, and basically just all-around high on life. I was thoroughly entertained by her stories of mining for treasures in her Colorado home and her enthusiasm when she described her Colorado adventures. I missed her so much that I shed a few tears at the end of the night when I had to leave her again! Luckily, it won't be too long until I see her again as we continue to celebrate the bride-to-be in the upcoming months. I'll be anxiously awaiting the big day for this fabulous couple!

Sunday morning, we celebrated Easter at McLean Bible Church. The church is enormous, and it was completely packed out for Easter morning. The worship was incredible and we were so blessed to be able to visit and give praise to our risen Saviour at this church!

After our church service, we ate a yummy lunch at one of our favorite spots La Madeline. With a full belly of tomato soup, we went to pick up Furgie, walked her around Fairfax Corner to enjoy some of the beautiful day, and then hit the road back to NC. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend! Hope everyone had a Happy Easter weekend, too!

Over the Weekend

This past weekend was lovely. We had a storm come through early in the day on Saturday, but it passed quickly and made way for a gorgeous day. Matt and I thought it would be a good day to take our bikes into Charlotte to explore some bike paths. We ended up biking through one of my favorite streets in Charlotte - Queens Street. The houses that line the street are gorgeous, the landscaping is picture perfect, and there are plenty of big trees that give great shade. If I had a million or two to spend on a home in Charlotte, I'm pretty sure I'd pick somewhere on that street.

We biked for a good couple of hours and then biked over to Cantina to fuel up on chips, salsa, and tacos. YUM. We had so much fun and we're already planning our next bike trip.

With all of our biking, poor Furgie (our little Shih Tzu pup) did not really get to enjoy the nice day. But we made it up to her on Sunday with a trip to Birkdale after church. Furgie goes crazy with excitement when we announce a Birkdale trip, so I think she quickly forgave us for leaving her the previous day.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
